The core team has laid out the plan for Wordpress 5.7, the next release of the Wordpress platform. It is targeted for release in March 2021. Matt Mullenweg will be the release lead.
Wordpress 5.6 was released today. This is a major release of the Wordpress core platform. We are doing a verification of the production release on our company sites today. Overall, a solid update to the platform, but not one that delivers much from a functionality perspective to non-developers.
