The first release candidate for WordPress 5.6 was recently released. You can see the announcement here.

The first Release Candidate is always an important milestone in the WordPress community’s progress towards a major release of the WordPress platform. “Release Candidate” means that the new version is ready for release, but with millions of users and thousands of plugins and themes, it’s possible something was missed.
WordPress 5.6 is slated for release on December 8, 2020. Here at Outcome Labs, we are currently testing it on the staging versions of our own sites and our client sites to identify any issues.
Have you tested your site yet?
You can test the WordPress 5.6 release candidate in two ways:
- Try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (choose the “Bleeding edge” channel and Beta/RC Only” stream options)
- Or download the release candidate here (zip).
