WordPress Release Delayed

WordPress 5.9 Delayed

The WordPress core team announced a delay in WordPress 5.9 Beta 1 release that will move the scheduled production release from December to January. A number of significant blocking issues have been identified which the contributors determined needed to be resolved for the release to ready. Here is the proposed schedule which has not been officially confirmed yet:.

  • Nov 30 – Beta 1 (2 weeks from now)
  • Dec 7 – Beta 2
  • Dec 14 – Beta 3
  • Dec 21 – Beta 4 (optional)
  • Jan 4 – RC 1 (5 weeks from Beta)
  • Jan 11 – RC2
  • Jan 18 – RC 3
  • Jan 25 – Release date

Sarah Gooding did a an-depth post explaining the rational behind the delay. You can read that here. Here at Outcome Labs, we will be testing WordPress 5.9 through the beta cycle and updating our clients on what to expect when it is deployed. The most significant feature of this release, Full Site Editing, will only be activated if you switch to a Block Theme like the new default 2022 theme. Our client support team will follow up with you on the specific plan for your site.
